BANGALORE: For the second time in its short history the Champions League T20 (CLT20), termed the World Club Championships in some cricketing circles, will be held in South Africa.
The CLT20 Governing Council, which consists of members from the three stakeholders, the BCCI, Cricket South Africa and Cricket Australia, have reportedly decided on the move as indicated by a tweet from Sundar Raman, the
IPL CEO and a member of the CLT20's technical committee.
In the beginning itself, the idea had been to rotate the tournament between the three nations but with September, the preferred month, being somewhat unsuitable for cricket in Australia, it hasn't as yet travelled Down Under.
In 2010 the tournament attracted decent crowds for matches involving the two SA provinces as also the three Indian IPL sides. This time there will be four IPL teams, with Kolkata Knight Riders set to make their debut alongside Delhi Daredevils, defending champions Mumbai Indians and the winners in 2010 in SA, Chennai Super Kings. The introduction of a Pakistani team, Sialkot Stallions, could add to the attraction.
